fashion icons of the 90s #1 - Clueless

There's a 90s bar I'm trying to get my friends to go to for my birthday; even if they don't go along with it too I'm dressing up full-on 90s vintage. My inspiration? Clueless; the most stylish movie of the decade, the most quotable in my DVD collection, that takes me back to sleepovers of my first year of secondary school eating Woolworths pick & mix.

Photos taken from fanpop.com

One thing I don't miss from the 90s... massive mobile phones

My fav Clueless outfit; white wouldn't be quite so forgiving on me though

...Maybe I'll give the hat a miss though

My high school snaps circa 1995 weren't quite so glamorous... remember puffa jackets?

In 1995 Cher shopped in Fendi, Beverly Hills; I shopped in the Bentall Centre, Kingston

If only I had Cher's wardrobe and credit card.... I'll have to make do with some eBay-ed vintage Miss Selfridge

retro chart - this week in 1991

So let's start with 1991. The year I first got interested in music; I recorded Top of the Pops every week, illegally taped the Top 40 countdown off the radio and started buying vinyl singles in my local Woolworths (RIP)

Big in 1991; rave anthems, largely-forgotten house tunes with piano breakdowns, the early beginnings of Britpop, ageing 70s/80s icons final chart hits... and lots of cheesy pop. As a schoolgirl in Surrey at the time, my iPod collection from 1991 mainly consists of the latter, however had I been a decade older I would have turned my nose up at the pop stuff like I do with the current chart fodder I avoid and have been driving around the M25 every weekend looking the secret rave location to dance to Altern 8 and Prodigy with my glowstick and white glove (...I was born too late)

welcome to 1994...

Today I took the leap into the world of nostalgia blogging. After a brief foray into travel blogging and (forever unpublished) novel writing, I found myself in need of a new creative outlet to relieve the boredom of my life as an IT manager in a bland M4 corridor-commuter town.

Over the last couple of months as the UK swelters in a 1995-esque heatwave, I found myself creating 90s summer playlists on my iPod, reminiscent of what I used to listen to on Capital radio (before they began playing the same 10 tracks in a loop) and my Walkman back in the days when music was actually good (...that makes me sound old) Last weekend, my brother told me he had an 'urge to listen to songs from 1994' on a recent road trip with friends, which inspired me to create him a list of songs from said year for his next trip. I found myself getting embarrassingly excited and exclaiming 'I haven't heard that in years!' as I scrolled through the chart archives from 19 years ago to compile the list. So I thought to myself, I need to do this more.... and share it with other sad people like me who are still musically twenty years behind. Maybe throw in some movies, fashion and fads too.

So here it is my first entry! I might post twice and get bored, I might still be doing this in 10 years when the noughties is retro again, let's see...
